Street Photography Workshop

Street photographs are mirror images of society, displaying “unmanipulated” scenes, with usually unaware subjects.


The workshop will take place over a two-day period and it will encompass instruction about the genre of photography generally referred to as “Street Photography”. We will review the history of street photography and study it’s evolution in various forms in today’s photography world.

Day one:
First Half
- Introduction
- History of Street Photography
- What is street photography
- Discussion about various forms of current methods of street photography
- Legal issues
- Overcoming your fear of taking pictures on the streets

Second Half
- Four-Corner photography exercise on location in downtown Chicago
- Photo walk in a group or individually in the Loop (Downtown Chicago)

Day Two
- Review of photographs shot by students the day before
- Discussions about student’s work
- What makes a street photograph work?
- Editing student’s work
- Printing photographs

Nima Taradji was born in Iran, grew up in France, and then moved to the United States where he attended college in Texas. After graduation he moved to California and began work as a commercial photographer and a master B&W printer. He now resides in Chicago, Illinois. Nima retired as an attorney in 2015, and decided to return to photography professionally. Currently, as a documentary photographer he pay particular attention to the cultural, social and political landscape of our society and photograph issues he finds important. Nima sees his camera as a tool that gives him an excuse to go places, see people and to explore the world and learn about its people and issues with which he is unfamiliar.
