Arches National Park Photo Safari
Experience the Wonders of the American Southwest
Join us as we explore and photograph three of the Southwest’s most vibrant parks. We will visit Arches National Park, Dead Horse Point State Park and Canyonlands National Park during this five day photo journey. Sunrises and sunsets are the order of the day, with hiking to photo vantage points during each day. Evenings, after sunset shooting and dinner, we will gather to review and critique some of the day’s images.
After arriving in Salt Lake City, we will drive to Moab, which will be our base for the trip duration. After checking into the motel, we will proceed to Arches National Park where, depending on time, we will hike to one of the better known formations to capture sunset images.
Arches National Park lies north of Moab, Utah. Bordered by the Colorado River in the southeast, It is known as the site of more than 2,000 natural sandstone arches, with contrasting colors such as the massive, red-hued Delicate Arch in the east. Other geological formations include Balanced Rock, towering over the desert landscape in the middle of the park.
We plan to visit Canyonlands National Park to capture the amazing sunrise at Mesa Arch and view the center of the great canyon. There will be hiking involved, nothing too strenuous. We will also visit Dead Horse State Park to practice our panorama photography techniques, so a good tripod is a must.
Since Arches National Park is part of the “Dark Skies” program, this will be a perfect time to work on astrophotography.
Each evening, after sunset shooting and dinner, there will be an opportunity for critiques of the day’s work.
A suggested clothing and equipment list will be provided and, if necessary, a preliminary meeting to review these lists will be conducted.
