Confident Posing: A 2-Day Portrait Workshop With Erica Ruyle

Struggling with posing?  Unsure how to give instructions to help get the most out of a session? You’re not alone.

That’s because:

  • Most photographers learn lighting.
  • Some learn composition.
  • Very few learn how to truly pose people.

This workshop is about closing that gap.

Great posing is what separates good portraits from unforgettable ones!  This immersive 2-day workshop gives you a clear, practical system you can use immediately.

This hands-on workshop teaches a structured, repeatable approach to posing people with confidence and intention. Through a blend of guided instruction and real-world shooting, you’ll learn how to build poses from the ground up, adapt to any body type, and direct subjects naturally and effectively.

We’ll go beyond safe, predictable posing and build a deeper understanding of how bodies, angles, and expression shape emotion in an image. You’ll learn how to stop guessing, stop over-directing, and start crafting portraits that feel intentional, confident, and alive!

What You’ll Learn

  • A step-by-step system for building poses from feet to face
  • How to flatter different body types with simple, intentional adjustments
  • The role of camera angle, perspective, and body lines in shaping a pose
  • How to create strong, soft, or dynamic poses on demand
  • Techniques for directing men, women, and children with clarity and ease
  • How to quickly diagnose and fix awkward or stiff posing

Workshop Structure

Day 1 (April 11th) : Foundations & Fundamentals

Day 2 (April 25th): Building a Posing System

What You’ll Walk Away With

  • A repeatable full-body posing framework
  • A sharper eye for tension, shape, and visual flow
  • Tools to confidently pose any body type
  • Real shooting experience and guided feedback
  • Stronger direction skills and faster on-set decision-making
  • Stronger confidence behind the camera

Perfect for portrait photographers at any level who want to stop guessing and start directing with confidence.
