1st Edition : Bottle Lab

The Product Atelier is a hands-on workshop series led by product and food photographer Mo Bench. Each session focuses on a different object and lighting challenge, helping participants develop practical product photography skills in a friendly, studio environment.

In this first edition — Bottle Lab — we explore one of the most fascinating subjects in product photography: glass bottles.

Photographing glass is all about controlling reflections, shaping light, and revealing the liquid inside the bottle. During the workshop, you’ll learn how to use diffusion, flags, and background lighting to create clean, elegant bottle images. Mo will demonstrate a few lighting approaches for photographing glass products, and participants will have time to explore the setups and shoot their own images. The goal is simple: understand how light behaves around glass and leave with a set of polished product photographs.

Basic knowledge of camera operation is recommended.

Mo Ben Cheikh

I’m Mohsen “Mo” Ben Cheikh, a Chicago-based commercial photographer specializing in product, food, and industrial photography. My career spans Paris, Tunis, and now the U.S., where I’ve collaborated with brands of all sizes to create visuals that resonate. From my early days in Paris to running my own studio, I’ve worked on campaigns ranging from luxury goods and large-scale industrial projects to neighborhood restaurants and national pastry brands. Alongside client work with art directors, designers, and agencies, I’ve led more than 200 training sessions in product photography worldwide. Now in Chicago, I’m excited to share this experience with students exploring product and food photography.
