The class will introduce you to both shooting and editing in Premiere Pro.  The instructor, Samuel Rong, is a filmmaker, videographer, and journalist with a decade of experience working in documentary production and television news in the United States and abroad. Description

CPC’s inaugural Intro to Video Storytelling class is a one-stop-shop where you will learn the core tools necessary to create artistic videos that tell stories through motion picture and sound. The class will introduce you to both shooting and editing. A weekly lecture will provide instruction and in-class demonstrations on the fundamentals of camera work, covering elements like exposure, sound, and sequencing.

A weekly lab session will take you through the different tools and techniques of Adobe Premiere Pro, a professional, industry-standard video editing software. In our lab, you’ll have access to both Mac and PC computers that have Adobe Premiere Pro installed.  If you prefer to use your own laptop, you may as long as you have the most updated version of Premiere Pro.  

Going through 7 weeks of lecture and lab will result in you gaining the ability to fully produce documentary-style videos from start to finish.

Week 3:  White Balance & Color Temperature

Week 4:  Interviews

Week 5:  Sound

Week 6:  Movement

Week 7:  A Final Production

Week 1:  Getting Started in Premiere Pro

Week 2:  Adjusting Exposure

Week 3:  Color-Correction

Week 4:  Cutting Soundbites

Week 5:  Audio Mixing

Week 6:  Final Editing

Week 7:  Presenting Production

Lab Times

You will need to attend one of the following times each week of class.  You are also welcome to attend both lab times as well.

  • Sundays 2:00 – 4:00 PM
  • Mondays 1:30 – 3:30 PM

Required Equipment

  • DSLR or Mirrorless Camera with video capabilities.
  • Kit zoom lens (18-55) preferably with stabilization
  • Tripod with a Pan-Tilt Head. Click HERE for an example

  • External Hard Drive.  Click HERE for an example.  For students that have taken Photo I, the same hard drive may be used.

Instructor Information

Samual Rong

Sam is a filmmaker, videographer, and journalist with a decade of experience working in documentary production and television news in the United States and abroad. He finds deep fulfillment being behind the camera because it allows him to go to places he normally wouldn’t go to and meet people he otherwise would have never met. Video-making as a profession caters to Sam’s constant curiosity about the world. Video-making as a craft speaks to his creative hunger and spirit of never-ending artistic refinement.
