Fine Art Printing: A Weekend Intensive

Saturday & Sunday | Two-Day Hands-On Workshop | 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM Each Day

Join Nick Sinnott and other instructors to transform your photographs from digital files into finished, exhibition-quality prints during this immersive weekend workshop. Designed for photographers who want to understand—and take control of—the complete fine art printing process, this intensive combines technical instruction, guided experimentation, individual feedback, and substantial hands-on printing time.

Participants will learn how to evaluate an image for print, calibrate a monitor, use ICC profiles, prepare paper-specific files, select an appropriate fine art paper, and make targeted adjustments based on physical test prints. We will examine how paper surface, texture, brightness, warmth, color gamut, and viewing light affect the final photograph.

The weekend will include:

  • Monitor calibration and color-managed workflow
  • Resolution, color space, file preparation, and output sharpening
  • Hard proofing and proper use of ICC profiles
  • Fine art paper selection and image-to-paper matching
  • Creating master and paper-specific print files
  • Test strips and efficient proofing techniques
  • Color and black-and-white print refinement
  • Operating CPC’s Epson and Canon professional printers
  • Preparing files for large-format printing
  • Evaluating prints under controlled lighting
  • Basic printer maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Handling, curing, signing, storing, and presenting finished prints

The material that you will get:

  • Unlimited 13×19″ Luster 260 Paper
  • 2 – Sample Packs of 13×19″ Fine Art Paper
  • 2 Sheets 13×19″ Metallic Fine Art Paper
  • Archival Box to store prints
  • Luster and Matte Paper for large format (24×36″) printing
  • cotton gloves

This is a true production-based workshop. Throughout the weekend, participants will move through repeated cycles of printing, evaluating, adjusting, and reprinting. The intensive is designed around the production of approximately 30–50 prints at 13×19 inches, along with two 24×36-inch large-format prints. These prints will allow participants to compare papers, refine difficult images, explore multiple interpretations, and experience the progression from an initial proof to a finished exhibition print.

By the conclusion of the workshop, participants will understand not only how to operate a professional printing system, but how to make informed creative decisions throughout the entire process—from selecting an image and choosing a paper to producing, evaluating, and presenting the final print.

Participants should arrive with a curated collection of fully edited, high-resolution images suitable for printing. A working knowledge of Lightroom or equivalent editing software is strongly recommended. This intensive is ideal for intermediate and advanced photographers who want to develop a dependable fine art printing workflow, prepare work for an exhibition or portfolio, or gain greater independence in the CPC print lab.
