Accordion Books: Binding Your Portfolio

This class will guide you through the process of printing your portfolio and binding it into a beautifully crafted accordion book. We will begin by exploring a variety of accordion book designs and examining how artists use sequencing and bookbinding to present and strengthen their photographic work.

Before assembling our books, we will participate in a sequencing exercise to thoughtfully organize and refine your portfolio. You will then be introduced to the materials and techniques by creating a small practice accordion book.

Once your sequence is finalized, you will spend time printing your images before beginning the assembly of your final accordion book in class. We will conclude our seven-week session with a celebratory class critique, where you’ll have the opportunity to share and discuss the unique books you have created.

Additional Information:

• Basic experience in Photoshop and Lightroom recommended.

• We will be running a sequencing workshop on the first day. Please be prepared to share your work on the first day of class.

• There will be an additional fee of $160 (paid via Zelle or cash) for all of the materials and tools for making the book. Participants will be encouraged to take their tools and materials home to work on the books as well.
• The finished book can contain between 10 – 25 images.
