DESCRIPTION
We all tend to photograph the ones we love. Some of us integrate our family photos into our work as artists, others document our family life as a personal keepsake. In this class we will explore different techniques for photographing more intimate portraits of the ones you love. We will focus on observing light and space, and how to engage with your subject to elicit a natural moment. Each week we will cover techniques for photographing children, as well as adults, and you will be given an assignment to put those techniques into practice. We will engage in weekly critiques to discuss the choices that were made in the image-making process.

- Creating a Moment – Considering Props, Color and Activities
- Photographing Two Subjects
- Photographing Details to Tell Your Story
- Outdoor Adventure – Engaging with Your Subject to Explore Their Environment
- Final Critique / Nikki Shares Her Post Editing Workflow (Culling Images, Exposure and Color Manipulation, etc)

NO Prerequisite: From Mobile Phone Photography to Interchangeable Lens Cameras…all are welcome!
Nikki O'Leary
Nikki O’Leary is an Artist and Photographer based in Chicago. She has been exploring this world, camera in-hand since she was a little girl, and has extensive experience in both Film and Digital Photography. She received an MFA at Lesley University College of Art and Design in the Boston area, studying Alternative and Experimental Photographic Processes and making work about the sea and her ancestry. There, she learned how to use her camera as pen and paper to create visual poetry.
