Special Presentation – Next Tuesday at 7:00 PM at Chicago Photography Classes
Join us for an inspiring evening with Danny Howard and John Marcheschi as they share their recent journey to Sumatra, Indonesia with Photographers Without Borders in late 2025.
Danny and John were commissioned to photograph and write about Nuraga Bhumi, an extraordinary nonprofit working in and around Gunung Leuser National Park. The organization leads an all-female conservation team protecting endangered orangutans, tigers, and elephants, while also investing deeply in local communities through afterschool conservation programs, indigenous heritage education, micro-grants, and women’s empowerment retreats.
Their time on the island opened their eyes to both the powerful grassroots conservation work being done — and the devastating environmental and social impact of the palm oil trade in the region.
They’ll share powerful photographs, stories from the field, and lessons learned from working alongside these remarkable women. We will also be joined live via Zoom by Nuraga Bhumi’s founder, Nayla Azmi, for a special conversation and Q&A.
John and Danny have launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise awareness and support for this important mission, and they’ll explain how our community can help.
This will be an evening of meaningful storytelling, impactful imagery, and global connection. We hope you’ll join us.
