This energetic lecture is conducted every Sunday at our campus at 4001 N Ravenswood Ave. Chicago. It is also conducted Online and at The Art Center (TAC) in Highland Park, Illinois on select dates. The class is designed to introduce people to proper exposure using their cameras. You will learn basic camera operation: an overview of your camera controls, use of your camera’s exposure meter, and a discussion about which lens is the best value.
No camera? No worries! We have cameras to loan for this class. If you are thinking of purchasing a DSLR or Mirrorless Camera, we will help you to understand what to look for so you can make an informed decision.
If you have a new Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) or Mirrorless camera, need a refresher or have never attended a photography class, you should attend this workshop. Or if you are thinking of purchasing a DSLR, Mirrorless or Film (SLR) camera, we will help you to understand what is important and what’s not important in cameras with interchangeable lenses. You will learn basic camera operation: an overview of your camera controls, use of your camera’s exposure meter, and a discussion about which lens is the best value. No worries if you have a film camera because those cameras are covered too. Be sure to bring a camera, as well as your camera manual if you have one.

My brother, and I attended this class yesterday, and we really enjoyed it. It was a great introduction to better using our DSLR. We would love to take photo 1 in the future when timing works out, but we are excited to practice with the information we gained yesterday in the meantime. Thank you for a great class Nick!
I’m thoroughly impressed by the 90-minute free photography class. Nick did an amazing job in explaning the basic principles of your camera operation. He showed genuine interest in people learning about the camera. He went the entire 90 minutes and a little overtime where he barely even pitched the photography courses. I got a very good feeling of the quality of these courses.
Thank you for attending yesterday and your comment. We look forward to seeing you in future classes and following your photographic development.
I learned so much in that 90 minute free class. Nick is a great instructor, he explains things in a way that anyone can understand and answers everyone’s questions throughly.
Thank you for attending the class. We hope to see you at one of our regular 7-week classes soon.
Nick was an excellent instructor and provided a bounty of information in a comprehensive and thoughtful manner. Looking forward to taking additional classes here!
Thank you for attending the Free 90-Minute Camera Session! We look forward to seeing you at school more often.
Such a great experience! My goal is to get out of Auto mode and this class was a fantastic start to doing that. Nick went through so many different pieces of getting a great photograph and provided hands on/one-on-one attention throughout class. Would highly recommend to anyone looking to learn more about photography and their own personal camera. An amazing start to what will hopefully be a long photography journey.
Thank you for commenting on the Free Class. We are happy that you enjoyed your time and hopefully, we can help you through your photographic journey.
It was everything I was looking for in an introductory class.
We are happy that you enjoyed the class!
Great introductory course. Encouraging for those who are eager to learn!
Thank you, we are happy that you enjoyed the class. Looking forward to seeing you in the future.
I attended the free 90-minute camera workshop and it was great. Our instructor, Nick, explained the basics of photography and the cool/nerdy things you can do with your own camera. I was very impressed and interested to learning. I will be attending the Photo I class in March 2019. Thank you all very much!
Thank you for attending today. We look forward to continuing your photographic journey.
Intro class today was very informative and enjoyable. Fantastic, concise, hands-on introduction to digital photography. I’m very interested in taking the next step. Thank you for offering this complementary 90-minute class.
Thank you for attending today, in spite of the weather. We look forward to continuing your photographic journey.
This class was very good. Beginners will gain a much higher comfort level with their cameras. Attendees with more experience will gain a great refresher on the exposure triangle, get helpful advice and always learn something new. More importantly, for those who wish to move forward and really learn photography, the class highlighted the school’s excellent teaching methods, the facilities resources and the flexible schedule for ongoing classes. My wife and I immediately signed up for the Photo 1 course in March. A great LEARNING experience – as Ansel Adams said, “It’s not the camera that makes a great picture – it’s the 12 inches behind it!”
We are happy that you and Mary enjoyed the class yesterday and thrilled that you will be joining us in March when we begin our next session.
