Each Sunday: A Free 90-minute Workshop/Orientation on use of DSLR & Mirrorless Cameras

Basic Camera Overview/Class Orientation, DSLR & Mirrorless Camera Operation, and the Principles of Correct Exposure

This energetic lecture is often imitated but never equaled. This weekly free 90-minute workshop is designed to introduce people to proper exposure using their cameras.

Starting each Sunday at High Noon (12 PM), this 90-minute workshop will keep your attention.  We include Photographic Thinking in all of our programs; the only accent here is on learning.

No camera? No worries! We have cameras to loan for this class. The class also includes a discussion of what to look for when you do buy a camera, so you can make an informed decision.

If you have a new Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) or Mirrorless camera, need a refresher or have never attended a photography class, you should attend this workshop. Or if you are thinking of purchasing a DSLR, Mirrorless or Film (SLR) camera, we will help you to understand what is important and what’s not important in cameras with interchangeable lenses.

You will learn basic camera operation: an overview of your camera controls, use of your camera’s exposure meter, and a discussion about which lens is the best value. No worries if you have a film camera because those cameras are covered too.

Be sure to bring a camera, as well as your camera manual if you have one. If you do not have a camera, don’t worry, be happy, a camera will be provided for you to use during the workshop.

Other art center’s try to Impress you with what they and others have done… We want to Impress – With what we will teach YOU to do 😉

Informative ans hands-on approach that introduces you to your camera. Helped me understand the basics and got me excited enough to enroll in Photo 1. Would definitely recommend!

I have owned my camera for a few years and did not know half of the things shown to me today. The instruction was simple and easy to keep track of. My only request would have been to have a little more visual presentation to go along with the manipulations we were doing with the cameras. This way we could get a better understanding from the perspective of the photos the differences it made.

If you have ever owned a camera and had no idea what half the settings mean- go to this class! Great basic info that expanded out into more advanced topics- all very well explained and understandable. Nick was knowledgeable, fun and made you want to participate. Looking forward to taking more classes here!

I’m amazed at just how much I got out of this first free class! I’ve taken photo courses before, but Nick had a way of presenting the information that was fun & unique. Instead of just hearing about the “how” when it came to manipulating my camera, I came to understand more of the why and I liked the photo examples that were used to show the differences in settings. I would definitely be up for more classes here!

I believe is a great class for brand new beginners or even those who have built a hobby in the field without real trained knowledge. It runs through some very essential yet basic know-hows. I do believe some more examples of images and how certain settings helped to accomplish those images would be of more help.

Excellent introduction to DSLR cameras. Nick is a wonderful teacher. I can’t wait to start the Photo I class!!! I’m so impressed with the new (or relatively new) leadership at Chicago Photography Classes. If you’ve been meaning to explore photography as a hobby, I would recommend this class. And come to the session with questions. The instructors are happy to assist you. It’s really a learning community there.

I have been shooting for a dozen years and taught myself by reading and experimenting, etc. Up to this point, my technical knowledge was more ‘winging it’ and I had reached a plateau in my picture taking and knew there was more knowledge to be gained. This one session taught me things and made me re-think how I approach subjects and processes. We have enrolled in and are looking forward to starting Photo 1.

Excellent overview class! My dad and my uncle both tried explaining ISO’s, aperture, etc to me on separate occasions, but it still didn’t gel with me…until today. The way Nick explained things, along with the handouts, made things much clearer. I plan on signing up for the Photo I class very soon. Thank you!

Nick is an excellent communicator, the all class was easy to follow and made some of confusing things cleat to me, unfortunately can’t take the classes this July but hope to do it in September, thank you much.

This class was exactly what I was looking for: the basics and helping me to find the courage to get out of “auto” mode. Explanations were clear and easy to understand. I plan on signing up for Photo 1 in the fall.

I attended the 90 minute class yesterday and was very happy that I did. Every seat was occupied. The class was full of individuals wanting to learn more about the school and photography. Nick was great as he explained some of the basics of photography. He has a great personality and an excellent sense of humor. Patiently answered everyone’s questions. Without hesitation I signed up for the Photo 1 course. Very much looking forward to it!
