I’m thoroughly impressed by the 90-minute free photography class. Nick did an amazing job in explaning the basic principles of your camera operation. He showed genuine interest in people learning about the camera. He went the entire 90 minutes and a little overtime where he barely even pitched the photography courses. Such a great experience! My goal is to get out of Auto mode and this class was a fantastic start to doing that. Nick went through so many different pieces of getting a great photograph and provided hands on/one-on-one attention throughout class. 33. rvesecky

This class was very good. Beginners will gain a much higher comfort level with their cameras. Attendees with more experience will gain a great refresher on the exposure triangle, get helpful advice and always learn something new. More importantly, for those who wish to move forward and really learn photography, the class highlighted the school’s excellent teaching methods, the facilities resources and the flexible schedule for ongoing classes. My wife and I immediately signed up for the Photo 1 course in March. A great LEARNING experience – as Ansel Adams said, “It’s not the camera that makes a great picture – it’s the 12 inches behind it!”

    • Nick Sinnott

We are happy that you and Mary enjoyed the class yesterday and thrilled that you will be joining us in March when we begin our next session.

  34. Nicki Vitaioli

Great into class to cameras, photography, and the school.

  41. Deborah

This class was exactly what I was looking for: the basics and helping me to find the courage to get out of “auto” mode. Explanations were clear and easy to understand. I plan on signing up for Photo 1 in the fall.

  43. christine.hulse

Excellent overview class! My dad and my uncle both tried explaining ISO’s, aperture, etc to me on separate occasions, but it still didn’t gel with me…until today. The way Nick explained things, along with the handouts, made things much clearer. I plan on signing up for the Photo I class very soon. Thank you!

  44. jpulliam68.jp

I did the Free 90-Minute Camera Workshop and Nick was great with giving us basic understanding. So I register for his class on May 6! The saff there was some amazing

  45. Mark

I have been shooting for a dozen years and taught myself by reading and experimenting, etc. Up to this point, my technical knowledge was more ‘winging it’ and I had reached a plateau in my picture taking and knew there was more knowledge to be gained. This one session taught me things and made me re-think how I approach subjects and processes. We have enrolled in and are looking forward to starting Photo 1.

  46. Marguerite

Excellent introduction to DSLR cameras. Nick is a wonderful teacher. I can’t wait to start the Photo I class!!! I’m so impressed with the new (or relatively new) leadership at Chicago Photography Classes. If you’ve been meaning to explore photography as a hobby, I would recommend this class. And come to the session with questions. The instructors are happy to assist you. It’s really a learning community there.

  47. Siobhan

I believe is a great class for brand new beginners or even those who have built a hobby in the field without real trained knowledge. It runs through some very essential yet basic know-hows. I do believe some more examples of images and how certain settings helped to accomplish those images would be of more help.

  48. Denise

I’m amazed at just how much I got out of this first free class! I’ve taken photo courses before, but Nick had a way of presenting the information that was fun & unique. Instead of just hearing about the “how” when it came to manipulating my camera, I came to understand more of the why and I liked the photo examples that were used to show the differences in settings. I would definitely be up for more classes here!

  49. Jasmine

The instructor for this class was great and made it very intriguing! It was a very friendly environment and I’ll definitely be looking into taking other classes there!

  50. Maria

If you have ever owned a camera and had no idea what half the settings mean- go to this class! Great basic info that expanded out into more advanced topics- all very well explained and understandable. Nick was knowledgeable, fun and made you want to participate. Looking forward to taking more classes here!

  51. Katelin

Very informative and very interactive class. First class is free but worth paying for

  52. Theresa S. Berry

I have owned my camera for a few years and did not know half of the things shown to me today. The instruction was simple and easy to keep track of. My only request would have been to have a little more visual presentation to go along with the manipulations we were doing with the cameras. This way we could get a better understanding from the perspective of the photos the differences it made.

  53. dnassar86

Informative ans hands-on approach that introduces you to your camera. Helped me understand the basics and got me excited enough to enroll in Photo 1. Would definitely recommend!
