Join us on March 22nd as we celebrate the Hindu festival of colors, Holi Festival, at Navy Pier in the best way – by having your camera in hand and getting into the middle of the celebration!
Holi is a vibrant and joyous Hindu festival that marks the arrival of spring and the triumph of good over evil. Known as the “Festival of Colors,” it involves a lively and playful celebration where celebrants throw brightly colored powder. This spring festival at the Navy Pier involves music, dancing, and other cultural activities.
Kickoff Zoom Meeting: A week prior (Thursday, March 13th at 6 pm), we will meet via Zoom to discuss the festival, camera equipment, settings, and, most importantly, how to protect your camera during the event.
Holi Festival Celebration: The festival officially kicks off at 1 pm, but we’ll meet at 12:30 pm to check your equipment and make sure that it’s properly protected and sealed. From there, we will head outside and into the fray of the festival. As the day goes on, things will get crazy (and much more fun). If we need a break from powder throwing, we’ll step inside the ballroom and get great pics of the other cultural celebratory activities, including dancing.
Editing and Celebration Zoom Meeting: Finally, we’ll have a close-out Zoom celebration after the workshop on April 3rd at 6:00 pm to discuss editing tips and tricks and share everyone’s favorite images!
This workshop is for anyone interested in Event/Street photography—no previous experience is needed. Come with whatever camera and lens you use most (although wider-angle lenses work best); nothing special is required (we’ll discuss what you’ll need to know during out kickoff Zoom).
Please note: You WILL get dirty but in the most colorful way possible. This event is weather-dependent (i.e., rain or snow) but will take place regardless of temperature. You will need to purchase a camera cover (less than $10, available on Amazon) before the event – we’ll let you know what to get.
This is a once-a-year event that is not to be missed!
